A mortgage free existence with Arched Cabins

Achieve Mortgage Free Living with Arched Cabins There’s a housing crisis In the United States. There are not enough homes for everyone who needs one and 77% of Americans cannot afford the median cost of $495,750 to buy a home in 2024*. Those 77% are looking to find another way.

Mortgage Free Living is on the rise. This means finding a way to home ownership without getting tied down by a hefty mortgage and the LOADS of interest that they entail. The benefits are life changing. Overall decreased annual expenses means that you can either choose to work less and enjoy more of your life or use that extra income for things that fuel your soul or your retirement fund. You can travel more to check off that bucket list, invest in a new business venture, the stock market, or all the above.

Many of our customers are downsizing. They’re empty nesters looking to retire and get a
piece of land somewhere they love and enjoy the rest of their lives more sustainably. For some, it’s the only way they can afford to retire. Being able to
enjoy growing old is priceless.

Working to pay for your mortgage is stressful; if you lose your job, get injured, wreck your car, or incur another catastrophic expense, you risk losing your home. I have met homeless people who were once prosperous white-collar business people who had a rash of bad luck.

Building your own home may seem daunting if you’ve never done it before, but it’s possible, and our kits are designed to be easy enough to build without any prior experience. You can build in stages saving up to pay as you go. The first stage would be to purchase land. Now, the budget varies WILDLY here. If you need to finance the land, raw land can require a much higher percentage down payment. However, you can look for something with a small trailer home or other cheap home structures you can move or tear down when your new home is built. Another less well-known option would be to look into tax lien land auctions. When property owners fail to pay their property taxes, local governments place a lien on the property. You can then purchase these liens at public auctions, typically conducted by the county. They usually publish a list so you can do your homework and make sure the land is the right fit before investing. You can get some lots for just a couple of grand.

The kit itself can be purchased and stored on your land until you have the means to build it. The insulation will need to be stored out of the elements, but the kit can be stored on pallets or 4x4s at a slight slope and tarped to keep it safe from water
damage.

Once it’s erected and dried in, meaning the foundation and the 4 main exterior walls are completed and the interior is weather tight, then you can take your time to finish out the interior as you have the money and time to do so.

Where there’s a will there’s a way and sometimes customers have to put all their funds toward the build to make it happen so we’ve seen people camp on their land while they build their kit, or buy a small travel trailer as well. You can source reclaimed/extra
materials in local buy/sale/trade pages and get some great deals.

On Jeremy and Gillian’s first Arched Cabin, they had a small galvanized tub for a sink, milled most of their own lumber and dealt with plywood countertops for a year or so before upgrading to granite.Without the burden of a large mortgage, it really provides a transformative freedom to do more with what you have, to do more of what you love, and to start living a more fulfilled life working towards things that fuel your soul instead of the mortgage company.
